A Unique, Virtual Surgical Education Experience

Every medical student, resident, and surgeon knows that the best way to learn how to perform a surgical procedure is by watching an expert do the operation in person. However, when standing next to a skilled surgeon in the operating room is not possible, pre-recorded videos of live surgeries that allow surgeons to visualize the entire procedure and hear real-time commentary are the next best option.

Performing a successful surgery depends on being able to visualize each step in the procedure and execute standard, reproducible techniques that are proven to improve surgical outcomes. That’s why the Experts in Surgery team has partnered with Michael D. Stifelman, M.D., Chair of Urology and Director of Robotic Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey, and Professor and Founding Chair of Urology at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, to provide full-length access to some of the most complex urological surgeries — all recorded live using professional-quality audio and video equipment, and available free of charge.

Dr. Stifelman is an internationally recognized leader in robotic surgery who has performed more than 3,000 robotic procedures and pioneered more than a dozen minimally invasive surgical approaches.

What’s different about the Experts in Surgery virtual surgical learning experience?

Most recorded surgery videos only show a short snippet of the surgery, often editing out routine aspects of the procedure and any difficulties that the surgeon may have encountered. These edited videos do not include audio that was recorded during the actual surgical procedure, and instead use voice-over commentary recorded after the surgery is complete.

All videos at Experts in Surgery are recorded live with a focus on providing top-notch surgical education and are available free of charge. Experts in Surgery videos show the entire procedure from start to finish with limited edits. Our videos include real-time audio commentary from the surgeon, capturing the essence of the procedure while providing a unique virtual surgical education experience that delivers enhanced visualization and step-by-step instruction.

“We understand that surgeons learn best when they can visualize each step of a surgical procedure and hear real-time commentary and instruction. Our approach to virtual surgical training offers an enhanced experience compared to traditional surgical training videos. It allows us to share pioneering surgical techniques and best practices with residents in our program — as well as with surgeons throughout the nation and world.”
